Wordpress has a good introduction to “blogging” and “Feeds” at http://codex.wordpress.org/Introduction_to_Blogging

The short answer is that Feeds are something that blogs publish to special “Feedreading” software.  Whenever a new blog entry is added to a site, it’s feed will be updated with the new blog entry.  Any feedreader will then show the new entry in the software, often it looks like a new email message.  The advantage is that you don’t have to waste time using your browswer to go web sites that have no new content.  Another advantage is that you can easily see the subject and content of the entries, and whether you’ve read them or not.

I really use feedreading a lot for my work, but also a lot of neat stuff for parenting.  In fact, there are many web sites that I only look at from within a feedreader.  Some of the Web sites with blogs that I find interesting for parenting are:

I also subscribe to photos on flickr so I can see whenever somebody has posted new pictures.  Our site will support that too BTW.  I intend to create a list of the web sites and blogs of interest on our site.

Now you can subscribe to the “feed” of the site.  For example, on vancouver twins, there is section at the bottom left that says “Feeds” with “Full” underneath it.  I use FeedDemon as my feed reader.  In the FeedReader, I enter the site (so just use the feedreader rather than a browser), and then I click on the “Full”.  The Feedreader then pops up a window asking whether I’d like to subscribe to the feed.  And that’s it.
